Just built my first computer, all fans are working including gpu fan when i turn it on. No getting a signal on the display. i tried plugging the hdmi into the motherboard without gpu installed and in the gpu when it is installed to no avail. I am worried my motherboard is fried, i checked, double checked and triple checked, everything is plugged in correctly. Furthermore i tried booting without ram installed no beeps there, not getting any beeps now.

Here is what I am using:
Corsair 600w psu
z972s sli motherboard
i5 4690k processor
hyper 212 cpu cooler
gigabyte geforce gtx970 gpu
corsair vengence case
no optical drive installed yet,
no software installed yet
this happened first time I tried to turn it on.

Any help is much appreciated

Any way for you to try another Psu? Have you tried just 1 ram stick? Switched out the monitor/cables? Made sure there weren't any extra mobo standoffs when installing the board? Cleared the cmos?
It may in fact be your board can you put a link to your board?

The only other thing you might try is if you have another cpu laying around that fits your current board that you could use to upgrade your bios to the latest version.

Again it is most likely your board.

did all the troubleshooting except clearing the cmos, all the parts are new and i dont have any other cpu/psu. I'm ordering a mother board speaker i was using the headset hookup in the front of the case not sure if that works for the beeps. Also a few times when i turned it on it will start briefly turn off then start again on its own. I dont know if that is normal or a sign of something specific. Also i may have put on too much thermal paste I am not sure what would be considered excessive but i do not think i did, is there a way to trouble shoot that?

As long as you didn't put much more than a pea sized drop I don't think it would be a problem unless you think it was so much that it ran over the sides and went down under the cpu. You can always remove the cooler, use alcohol to clean the cpu, take it out of the socket and check that the mobo pins aren't bent or something but about 9 times out of 10 it's the mobo gone bad not the cpu.
