I am putting together my first gaming PC and I keep hearing that the Noctua is one of the best companies for cooling. I already have the Thor V2 case so I am really looking for a compatible CPU cooler for a full case.

Solution
I looked at PCpartpicker and no other builds used the NH-D15 which leads me to think that it will not fit but there is atleast one that uses the NH-D14. if you want the D15 you can just leave the side panel off, if you want

the d14 is shorter. i have that. you can find out by taking the dimensions from the mobo cutout to the side panel window and add in the height of the mobo plus the height of the cooler and you have the answes there, what is your mobo model

Noctua used to be a great company, however a lot have surpassed them. Have you considered liquid cooling? It's a lot better, relatively speaking, than a heatsink/fan combo like the Noctua.

Wow! thanks for the info. Much appreciate . My mono is the Gigabyte
GA-Z97X-UD3H-BK. Its a big mobo I know.
I'll have to look into liquid cooling, it just always seems more complex.

Liquid cooling is actually very simple. If you go with a system like a CM H100I or the equivalent, it's as simple as bolting down a radiator, replacing your old heat sink with the one provided, powering the system, and off you go. Custom loops are where it gets complex. A closed loop system is literally a 5 minute install, if you don't have to move things around for it to work or rerun any wiring.
Edit: I forgot to link a closed loop system. This is what I'll be getting in the next couple of weeks. Just a little food for thought for ya =)

The H100I has a better CFM than the h105. The radiator's dimensions are also smaller on the H100I. Looking over the specs of the H105, it's hard to see why it's more expensive than the H100i =/ They're compatible with the same brands. It might come down to the looks of it. I would still go with the H100i after seeing the two side by side.
