Hey guys Waaazzzzaaaappppp!!!!!! :p

ok so I just received my PSU which is the fully modular xfx xtr 550w :) and my Gskill 2133mhz 2x4gb ram today in the mail! Pretty excited.... already got the case and the SSD so only waiting on the GPU and CPU and Mobo which i get on tuesday hopefully.

Boot Question...... So once I have all my cable management done, everything connected and start up the PC do I want to go directly into Bios and change the boot sequence to boot from the flash drive so i can install a operating system from my removable flash drive? or should i wait to see what the screen pops up first? I dont wanna put the usb drive in, turn on the computer for the very 1st time and then be screwed because i didn't ask before hand.

Thanks guys

what i do on a new pc is boot into the bios and go to the environment screen that shows temp and power supply intput to the motherboard. I let the pc sit there for about 20 min making sure the cpu temp is stable and the power supply 12v rail is stable. check for any non working fan and or burning smell. after 20 min wait to see that the temps are fine you want to check the bios rev of your mb. if the mb been in the warehouse a bit it may have an old bios on it. I update my mb to the newest bios file then go back in after the flash is done....want to turn on xmp profile for your ram and make sure the sata ports set to achi. on some newer windows 8.1 mb you have to turn off secure boot and turn on legacy boot to boot from usb stick. then...

My dear lord that seems like a mission but doable.... the Mobo is a Gigabyte Z97mx gaming 5 mobo if that matters. I need to look over your message another couple times see if this all sinks in :p very new to me but pretty excited about getting it up and running when the time comes.

I am guessing once everything all the temps look good and check the Rv of the Mobo if it's a old revision can i update it from the bios? or is that something i have to download from another pc on a usb and install it from the bios screen?

The other thing is what did you mean when you said this: want to turn on xmp (I know very little about XMP) profile for your ram and make sure the sata ports set to achi (I have never come across the term Achi since I've been researching everything for my build, could you please explain that)

not a real big mission. the first part is just letting the pc sit there and warm up like a car. during that time go get a drink and a snack...if you put the cooler on wrong there no way intill windows is installed and you have a temp program running that your killing your cpu with heat till the rig shuts down. the intel stock cooler with the plastic locking legs a lot of new builders think they got the legs in right but sometimes there not locked down tight. the cmos settings right now download the mb user guild in pdf from the mb vendor. it tell you how to install the cpu and cables and the cmos settings and what they do and the default settings of them. most newer pc the only two settings that need to be changed is xmp profile and the boot order.

before sata drives were ide drives. sata ports can run in three mode...ide for old os like xp. achi mode the newer mode for window 7/8 and raid (servers and back up) raid mosty used for people that cant lose data and use two or more drives to raid there system. windows will puke over itself if you switch modes after installing it to a drive. that why you want make sure your in the right sata mode or you have to wipe and reinstall windows.

on the bios update..boot into the bios the bios rev of the mb is on the first screen. if it one or two rev lower then one on the mb vendor web page see what it fixes. sometimes you dont have to update. if you do all you do is download the bios file to a usb stick and unzip it. on all new efi bios there a utlity tab that has an onboard bios updater. all you do is point the updater to the new bios file and let it run.
