This one guy at a PC store told me that avast can't see all the virusses so i thought which antivirus should i pick then? any help would be appreciated :) .

where can i get it for free :D

The problem is that one anti-virus or anti-malware software will not find all known infections, so it is recommended that several anti-virus/anti-malware programs be used.

For real-time protection only one program should be running at a time to prevent conflicts occurring.

Suggested programs -

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware <- free version doesn't have real-time protection
Emsisoft Anti-Malware <- again, free version has no real-time protection

You will need to buy it.

If you meant that phrase "where can i get it for free :D" as a joke, then nice one.
If not, then we may need to stop this thread as tomshardware does not deal with piracy.

I personally use McAfee as I find it easier and more customer friendly. :)

I bought McAfee on my laptop but it gave me problems since i also couldn't turn my firewall off.....anyway talking about piracy, why would people buy the stuff if they can just download it for free isin't there a way the police can stop them cause it doesnt look like they are doing anything. i know plenty of people who use torrent to download their things

True. I use Malwarebytes and Kaspersky Internet Security.

I don't know why McAfee is causing problems for you.. seems strange.
Police can't stop people from downloading stuff for free.. that's why they ask us not to.

In any case, I have seen threads on tomshardware been shut down due to a minor mention of piracy.
I don't want that to happen to this thread as I need the answer too.

I use Avast and MalwareBytes, and have absolutely no issues with viruses. Btw, if there is a program that is constantly coming up as a false positive, you can mark it as such and the program won't show anymore on Avast.

Do you know why the police can't stop the people cause it is really illegal. Also i heard many people complaining that they use torrent since the game companies sell the games for too much and that is kind of true actually cause here in South Africa you buy like Fifa 15 for 40$ and battlefield 4 premium for 35$ and just like assassins creed black flag for 60$ so after 3 games you already over 100$ and that really sucks!

Lucky it is so cheap for you. Those are the same prices in USA. In Singapore, it is $60 for Fifa 15 and $90 for Battlefield 4 and $120 bucks Battlefield 4 Premium..

I'm with the Avast + Malwarebytes combo too, with a sprinkle of HijackThis for pesky malware I may have to deal with other people's PCs (somehow, they're attracted by flashy "YES" and "DOWNLOAD" buttons like moths to light... >_>).
Never had false positives unless I cranked up heuristics to the max, and most valid detections were eventually confirmed by sites like VirusTotal.

As a plus, they're pretty much lightweight compared to other solutions. The only other good free solution that comes to mind is Avira, but last time I used it it went for A LOT of false positives. Might have improved with time, I guess...

I couldn't avoid laughing after I saw Microsoft Defender 4.4's security rating; just priceless :D

I really recommend ESET NOD32 Antivirus. I've been using it for years and have not been disappointed. I've used other antivirus software before like McAfee, Norton, etc. ESET has always performed better for me. I can't speak for other brands but ESET is definitely a good choice. If your into gaming, it also has a gaming mode option that will stop it from interrupting your gameplay. Uses very little resources too.
