I was playing on my PC for a couple hours then i shut it off. I try to turn it on an hour later and a screen pops up saying your main bios is corrupt and updating from backup bios. my computer works normally after it updated the main bios, but i don't like that my bios what corrupt. How do i fix that problem? How do i fix it so it doesn't happen again?

Solution
You can try to re-flash the primary BIOS with a BIOS image from the motherboard manufacturers website. If it's simply a firmware corruption, that should fix it. If it has a hardware failure of the BIOS ROM, it would need to be replaced. Some can be simply pulled off and a new ROM inserted. Others are soldered to the board. It depends on what board you have.

Be aware, there is always a risk involved and with a dual BIOS there may be a specific procedure involved in making sure you're flashing the primary BIOS. That shouldn't be a problem though. Saying there is a risk involved isn't to scare you, just to make you aware there is always a risk involved when flashing firmware to ANY device, BIOS or otherwise. It's a common procedure and these days is pretty much routine.

What is the model and revision of your motherboard. Model number and revision should both be somewhere on the motherboard.

To reset the BIOS needs more than most people do, so follow this sequence:
1. Disconnect the power cord and open the case.
2. Remove the BIOS battery - a silver disk about the size of a quarter in a plastic holder. Note which way it is positioned in that holder. Find the BIOS Reset jumper nearby. Move it to the other pair of pins - the Reset position. Leave it on there for 15 seconds. Now move it back to the original "storage" position. Replace the battery in its holder.
3. Reconnect power and boot up. Go immediately into the BIOS Setup screens. Look on the last pages for an option to "Load BIOS Default Settings" or "Load Optimized Default". Do that.
4. If you know of any special settings in BIOS that need to be re-established (for example, the Boot Order), do that now.
5. SAVE and EXIT to finish booting.

Step 3 is the key item. Just doing a Reset does not reliably re-establish the factory settings. Loading them as in step 3 is a sure way to do this.

This procedure will reset the BIOS correctly. If you still are having problems, it is not in the BIOS reset. It may be a hardware problem like a loose connection or faulty switch.

sir thanks for your response .. i have finish 1 - 5 .. but i dont know how about that Step 3 is it the number 3 of 1-5? , the keychain please explain briefly sir thankyou

This issue was RE-FLASHING the BIOS. NOT re-setting the BIOS. I think you were somewhat confused as to what we were discussing and your method has nothing to do with correcting a corrupted BIOS that is reporting ITSELF as corrupted and defaulting to the backup bios because of it.

For darkbreeze:
I realize my post was NOT about re-flashing the BIOS, which was OP's original problem. I was replying to the post from ASRock...User. That post did NOT address OP's problem either, but raised a different issue to which I replied. I headed my reply specifically to that post to try to avoid confusion.

I was referring to Item # 3 of my 5-point sequence. In most BIOS Setup systems, on one of the last pages or tabs you will find a menu that includes items such as:
Load Factory Default Settings
Load Optimized Default Settings
etc
etc
etc
Exit WITHOUT saving changes
SAVE and EXIT

Sorry bud. I apparently missed that there was a thread hijacker and didn't realize you were addressing them. My applogies. For THAT person though, if the system refuses to shut down, and keeps the fans spinning unless the cmos battery is removed, you either have a faulty power supply, a bad switch on the front of the case or your Windows power settings are set to only put the computer to sleep, not shut down, when the power button is pressed. Even then though, the fans would generally be shut off so it's more likely to be the power supply or case power button.

If you start your own thread, I'm sure one of us will be glad to help you find a solution but not on another members thread.
