GTX 970 or R9 290X for 4K gaming

Just a quick question on whether or not to buy the 290X or 970 for 4k gaming. Both models will be from msi ( good overclocking) and my monitor ( Samsung LU28D590DS/XY) supposedly supports freesync so I was just wondering. Thanks.

The 300 series will be coming out from AMD pretty soon so I would tell you to wait for that to see what it can do

This is because it's 4GB of VRAM compared to the 970s measley 2 GB or VRAM
