Building a gaming PC. Is this a good configuration? (800 € budget)

Hey everyone!

I hope this is the right section in which I have to post this thread. If not, I am deeply sorry and I apologize.

I am going to buy and buld a PC for the first time. My budget is of € 800 and I am willing to change parts of hardware

I have read many builds and I am going to get the configuration of the image I link now. http://i62.tinypic.com/9gijgy.png
I have just some questions about it and I hope you will find the time to help me with some of my doubts.

1: Since I have recently activated Amazon Prime (free shipping) I am wanting to get the PC parts by the 14th of February. Is now a good time to buy this kind of configuration or should I wait for a lowering of prices in the next months due to some new hardware pieces coming out?

2: I usually stress my ram really hard when I play games: with music playing, open browsers, a lot of applications going on, frequent alt-tabs, ecc. This is a stupid question but increasing my ram won't probably help me on that matter, right? Since I guess the system will just use always a portion of that ram, and the other would be wasted, right? I also hate long loading times (Rome 2, Silent Hunter 5, Arma 3). Could this solution help?

2.5: I have read the "Why I7 CPU is not useful for gaming" and I understand that. But, in regard to loading times and general "fastness" of the PC (on desktop, with files, with applications), is that significantly better?

3 + 3.1: A general question on the configuration: Do you think I could make a little but significant upgrade on the build by adding a certain piece of hardware other and/or in substitution of the ones that are yet in the build? Also, since I have a very small room, would this built be reasonably silent and quiet? (right now it seems I have a bulldozer in my case)

4: Regarding thermal paste: is there one type of paste that you recommend me to buy to effectively in any way increase the efficiency of my CPU and/or its duration?

Thank You for the time you gifted me by reading my childish questions and my incorrect grammar (I am italian). See you!
Mastrovara.

you do want a better power supply. the builder series from corsair arent very good units. for the rest it looks pretty good. try seasonic, xfx etc. more info about that here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1804779/power-supply-unit-tier-list.html

1: I honestly have no idea

2: those 8 gigs of RAM should be plenty. I've never had any problems and I like to listen to music while gaming!

2.5: no it's not significantly better for what you want to use it for. when you are into edditing etc it'll be a significant increase

3: it wont be extremly loud but not extremely quiet neither. you'll want to get an aftermarket cooler if you want silence. as for upgrades; perhaps you could try to get a gtx 970 int hat build. they generaly run cooler and consume less power and have better performance. or you could wait a little while for the r9 300 series from AMD. the r9 290 is a good card though

4: no real need to get other thermal paste.

go through your points one by one mate

1.Amazon tend to set their own prices dependant on how much stock they get in at a set price - therefore their prices dont necessarily reflect the rest of the market. If something is a good price now comparable to other sources then buy it now is my advice
As soon as a bargain pops up on there & they make a few sales then tend to up the price considerably. If you have prime membership you dont have to worry about delivery costs so can buy items as & when they pop up at a good price.

2/2.5 - 8gb ram is plenty ,more wont affect loading times.the i5 is a fast cpu,the i7 is only really useful for heavy dity photo/video editing - in gaming performance is similar - the i5 will take pretty much anything you can throw at it.

3. adding a ssd drive in WILL greatly reduce loading times for any game/app you install on it

4. if youre using the stock intel cooler the preapplied paste is good enough - If you buy a 3rd party cooler it will come with its own aftermarket paste which is normally good stuff.

Thank you for your fast reply!

So I guess I should go for:

An SSD of about? How much?

An Nvidia GTX 970 instead of a Radeon R9 290.

A better power supply right? Like what?

Are all these parts compatible with the rest of the system?

A 120gb ssd will let you installs windows & 3-4 of your most played titles.
A 240gb maybe 10 or so.
What you will find is having your os installed on the ssd & games installed on a seperate standard platter drive will reduce loading times anyway as there is no cross referencing between os & game files as there would be on a single drive.

The 970 is slightly better than the 290 ,it costs more though .its main benefits are far lower power draw, less noise, lower temps.
With a 970 you can easily get away with a good 450-500w PSU.

Regarding the CX PSU - I consider it decent enough personally - its certainly not a 'bad' PSU is others believe.
The PSU market in my eyes condists of only 3 sectors
50% - absolute rubbish - OSU's that should just not be used in a gaming rig.
30 %- basic but decent psu's - affordable & reliable - won't set the world alight but won't set your PC alight either.
20% - high end - very good but expensive .
The CX sits in the top half of that 30% mid range IMO.

The evga the guy suggests above is about the same quality as a corsair CX.

is it? I thought thebuilder series wasnt the same as the cx series. and yes I believe the cx series is good enough as long as you wont do any extreme overclocking.
I've always had this idea that the builder series was realy cheaped out, thus low quality

I did however mean to link the xfx TS one >.<

http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Wired-Bronze-Power-Supply/dp/B004RJ8EKI/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1421590046&sr=1-11&keywords=power+supply
which I am certain of it's a good quality unit

Ok I read your replies. I just want to thank you very much for your help guys. I just don't know what I would have done without you. Tomorrow I am collecting my paycheck and, with all the money I saved, I guess I will get away with it with 800+ €.

Thank you very much to the two of you!

you may also want to check it out on hardwareversand instead of amazon, it's a german shop where I order all my parts. it's the cheapsest one i've found atm!

also, you're welcome and I hope you have fun with your new rig!

^ similar performance at stock - its an overclockable chip though - to over clock requires a z series motherboard which are considerably more expensive & would throw you over budget.

Stick with your existing CPU & board & try & squeeze an ssd into the build is my advice.

no groundbreaking improvements, but yes it's better, it's up to you if you want to spend some extra money on it.
the 4670k is also overclockable. but if you want to overclock you'll want a z87-97 motherboard which is more expansive than the h97 you got there.

Thanks again!
I will consider swapping it then, maybe, but I am not sure yet. I just wanted to know that there weren't any incompatibility issues.
My budget plan is pretty dynamic so 30€+ here and there are acceptable.
I am not looking forward to overclock any time soon: I have never tried it but I don't fear it. I will look into some guides once I'll be ready.

Thank you guys for your kindness. You've been extremely helpful :)
I'll write your names on my case and send you the picture as soon as I'll have everything set up (probably some weeks). It's not much but I give you the credits for this rig. Thanks again!

haha sweet, I'll get famous then ;)

dont worry about it, computers are my hobby, I always like making a build, sharing my experiences and learning more while doing it.
