Hello,

Current setup/Specs:

ISP: Comcast
NEATGEAR N600 WiFI Cable Modem Router
Network Channel: 6

My PC is currently hard wired to my NETGEAR modem and not wireless. Although I do have Roku, Vonage and a smart TV connect to my modem/cable modem which I do not believe is causing the lag spikes on my online gaming. My internet test speeds are fine; however, I receive lag spikes a lot in game.

What can be the problem here?

Is it possible that a cable modem/wireless combination is bad for gaming in general?

I appreciate any input and help.

Do a ping test from the command prompt to the game's server, and you can see where the lag is coming from, if its from your router, or the server hops to the game server, or the game server itself.

You need to find the IP address of the game's server for this.

In windows 7, click windows icon, and type 'cmd' and press enter, once in the window, type: ping 192.xxx.xxx.xx (the IP address of the game server)

Thank you for the solution. However:

CMD shows 0% loss.

Minimum = 86ms
Maximum=95ms
Average = 89ms

Lag spikes are still present every 5-10 seconds (fluctuating).

I'm wondering if QoS(Quality of Service) and bandwidth priority has an influential factor to this. I'm still having an issue.

Any other suggestions/recommendations Xavier?

Note: Modem is a netgear n600 wifi docsis 3.0 cable modem router (c3700)
