Some can give me advice from tigerdirect unfortunately thats the only close company that I have
Maybe first learn of two completely different devices - both called surge protectors.
Surges that are hundreds of joules are routinely made irrelevant by protection already inside every appliance. You concern is for larger surges that may overwhelm that protection - maybe hundreds of thousands of joules.
How many joules does that power strip, Monster, or UPS claim to absorb? Hundreds? Then be concerned about fire when it attempts to absorb hundreds of thousands of joules.
A completely different device is called a 'whole house' protector. If anything in a building needs protection, then everything does. A properly installed 'whole house' protector even has spec numbers that claim protection from direct lightning strikes. Without damage to the protector. Costs about $1 per protected appliance.
A UPS is temporary and 'dirty' power for blackouts. Power sometimes so 'dirty' as to be potentially harmful to motorized appliances. And ideal for electronics. Because electronics already contain robust surge protection. Your concern is the other, rare, and typically destructive surge that a strip protector or UPS do not even claim to protect from. Protection is always about where hundreds of thousands of joules harmlessly dissipate.
