Hello guys,

I have an i7 4770K overclocked at 4.4Ghz (and 1.25V), and yet under 100% CPU usage AND balanced power saving mode, the frequency varies a bit, moving between 4.36Ghz and 4.4Ghz but under full power mode, this stays at 4.4Ghz.

I know it is not a big difference, but I am performing simulations that last hours and hours, so that little loss becomes quite important in the end. I have seen that when I tried to OC at 4.5Ghz it also kept moving between 4.35Ghz and 4.5Ghz.

What is the reason for this? Is there a way to correct this? I have to say that I am in adaptive mode in the BIOS using a Z87 Gryphon MB from Asus, with the turbo voltage set at 1.25V as I mentioned.

Cheers!

Matt.

C1E, C3, C6/C7, and EIST should all be disabled if you want full power with no idle drop.
I use a Gigabyte Z87X mobo with the same cpu and use static mode instead of adaptive.
The reason you are experiencing drops is you have power saving mode turned on.
Disable what I posted.

I want idle drop, my issue is that when at 100% of CPU usage, the frequency doesn't stay at what I set in the BIOS. I solved the issue myself, by changing the power supply.

I had a Corsair CX600 which was more than enough for the job, but moved to a Seasonic 850W Bronze, and that frequency issue drop has gone.

I thought this wasn't a hard question for some of the people here and I would get help but I guess I was wrong.
