Can anyone direct me to a NEW P8Z77-V LK? I am finally ready to buy the items I have researched for some time- and of course, it appears to be discontinued. Like Asus (have build most of my systems on Asus MBs) and I like the LGA1155. Hoping someone knows of a new source for this board. Buying an I5 processor for it. Neon

Hi tambeshankunk,
Thanks for getting back to me so soon.
the best answer I can give is that:
1. I know a lot about this board- I have been researching for almost a year, unfortunately only now ready to buy as I need it for my move to florida.
2. I really like the LAG1155, and again, I know it fairly well.
3. With over a year of looking at this board, it has gotten some of the best ratings of any Asus board I have seen - and all of my builds over the past 15 years or more have been with Asus boards.
BUT - it may be that I just waited too long and it is what it is, which means that I won't be buying components in time for my next visit to my FL condo, jan 21st. I was hoping to build it during this visit.
4. I do not look forward to starting my research from scratch.
I intent to use the i5-3570k Quad 3.4 processor.
I am building a computer that is overkill for what I need, but I have always tended to do this.
SSD and Hybrid drives
16Gb mem
and have not decided on video card, may use onboard until I decide to upgrade.
Also, am open to advice, especially since I may not be able to get the processor I really want.
Cheers, Nat

Ok you don't a Z97 board if you are getting the 4590 since it is not an unlocked cpu. However, just for your satisfaction I have included it in the build. Also, If you can wait, I would wait for Windows 10 if you hate win 8. 10 will be very very good by the looks of it. I have included a GTX 750 just in case you decide to do some light gaming and it will help with the dual monitors.

I REALLY thank you.
I can spend about $750, more if necessary, for the system (not including monitors) so I would like to upgrade a bit.
M.2 SSD:
I know a few people really happy with the Samsung M.2 256 GB SSD for boot/apps, they use a PCIe adapter, so I'd like to get that specific component. Was going to go with the PRO, until I realized M.2 can do better (though far away from their claimed speeds)
MB:
Would like to upgrade the Asus MB, if you know of one that can offer a bit more performance and allow for better future expandability. Also, I stay away from mini and micros. I like room to work in, expandability and room for it to vent.
CPU:
I can afford to up the processor GHz, though happy in the i5 family. I've never played with overclocking, but being retired, it might be fun to experiemnt and learn. Spent the first 15 career years as
IT managers and directors, always full hands on - loved it. Then moved onto sateliites (hence, things moved on and i didn't
Again, thanks for your guidance and help.

I know this is difficult as my stated current needs don't come close to challenging the system specs you provided. But a lot can happen to me in 5 years, and I would like the ability to add more drives (for segmentation based on use, usage size).
In the past, the only thing I have every needed to change as my use changes, is the case size to grow.

Well with what you want its going quite a bit over $750.

The board above is capable of very high overclocking and the CPU is excellent too.

Only thing, I have added a GT 630 which is a very basic card. Keep it for now and when you decide to do some more serious gaming, you will need a better GPU.

I REALLY LIKE the choices you have provided. I think this will be fun. Always like building my own. Fun to build and I really know my system when done. If I were to decide to upgrade a bit on the video ($30 is a no brainer) what would you recommend as a next 1 step up leap?

From what I can tell, the M2 on the Asus board only uses 2xPCIe lanes. This implies I need to get a PCIe adapter slot card to make full use of the x4 it is capable of using.
Do you agree?
And if you do, can you recommend a PCIe adapter?

I recommend the GTX 750 or 750ti as the step up in terms of GPU.

About the M.2. ....

Yes you are right that the board only has x2 not x4 and your SSD would certainly be constrained by an x2 M.2 slot. However, it would still be extremely fast (faster than a SATA III based SSD) even over just two lanes, so it is really about what you are doing. In normal use you won't notice ANY difference whatsover between x2 and x4. Only if you tested it within a very specific and demanding high end application which it seems like you will never need.

Nevertheless, if you really still need the x4, there are some limited options for you. My opinion is 'do you really need that extra performance for home use??
If yes, then you can either:

1) Get a board with an ultra m.2 slot such as the ASROCK EXTREME 6 Z97

or 2) Buy one of these http://rog.asus.com/327432014/labels/product-news/asus-hyper-m-2-x4-pci-express-gen23-to-m-2-x4-ssd-adapter-card/.

In my personal opinion I think the cost is not worth the performance and especially for you (where the system is already overkill and m.2 is already SO fast). I think you should stick with the ASUS Z97 PRO with the x2 slot. You really won't notice the difference.

Also if you are really in to the Z77 Chipset the Gigabyte Z77X-D3H is an excellent Motherboard and we happen to have one in stock also. Very dependable and powerful Motherboard. i5 3570K + Z77X-D3H= quality system...

Enjoy...

Luckily most BIOs updates for Motherboards capable of utilizing this Hardware are addressing and correcting these issues.

the ASRock and Asus are basically the same price. Are you suggesting I stay with Asus because it is a better MB or better company I your opinion?

Both are equivalently good boards and the same quality and reliability. Bear in mind AsRock used to be a subdivision of ASUS and they still make very good quality boards. The reason the Asrock despite having the ultra m.2 is the same price is because ASUS put slightly higher prices on their boards just for the brand name thats all. Both will be excellent choices. Have a look at this to confirm:

Tambeshakunt,
Well, we have been on a long journey together and I really appreciate that you stuck with me. We went from Z77 to Z97. Then moved on from the z97-Pro to ASRock.Extreme6/ac. I am about to order the system you advised and the XP941. I suspect I will be REALLY happy having followed your wisdom. I will write again after all the parts are here and I have had the fun of gluing them together and learning from scratch, the Extreme6/ac. I always love starting from square -1 in knowledge and building on it. Thank you again, many time :) :) :), Cheers, Nat
