I recently finished my first build, and I decided to install Windows 8.1 on it. However, I mistakenly bought a windows 8.1 32 bit system and didn't even notice until maybe a week of usage. Now I have to buy a new OS, and I'm still going with windows 8.1; however ill be making sure its 64 bit this time. I know I have to completely wipe my computer to reinstall windows so I plan to use Windows System Image to get all my files, apps, games, and pictures back into my new computer. So my question is will the system image turn my new 64 bit windows OS to the old 32 bit system? And is there a better way of doing this process?

Keep in mind, I do have an OEM type of windows

Solution
The image will be of the old disk. So everything will be 32 bit.

You need to back up what data you have (eg copy to a usb or drive).

Then install Windows 8.1 64 bit. That'll wipe your drive before it installs. See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-8/create-res...

Then you'll need to re-install drivers and apps and copy back your data.

Most of my games are from steam so I will be using it back up feature now that I have been warned (thank you), as for the programs/applications is there a way for me to move them manually? And do you know if the system image would turn a 64 bit system to a 32 bit system?

Wow, thank you for the warning. Now that I think about it, I'm just gonna go ahead and reinstall everything one by one. Thank you

PS: thank you also for copying your answer over from the other thread, very nice of you
