Can I use my HGST DeskStar NAS for a Hard Drive Replacement in my Rig?

Hi,

It seems one of my Seagate Barracuda drives is failing. It makes Windows freeze when I boot into it. It houses all my data, I recently switched it out of an old build. Please note, the OS itself is on an SSD.

This is why I assume it's failing. I ran CrystalDiskInfo, it says the HDD is in "GOOD" condition. So I'm a bit confused.

Anyways, I bought a HGST DeskStar NAS Drive, can I use it for my HDD in my build. I chose this NAS drive for it's reliability.

I read about firmware changes in NAS Drives in terms of Error Correction. Is this OK? Or is it only active in Raid mode? I will not be running RAID. I just need a reliable drive to house my music and games.

Should I cancel the order?

CAn you please let me know how? What are the items that need to be changed (be it jumpers/bios/through 3rd party software, etc).

I bought a NAStar 6TB drive and installed it in the computer with SATA cable (as a 3rd drive, behind the 128mb SSD and a Seagate Barra 3TB). It did not work.

Thanks for comments ...

If the HGST Deskstar is like my HGST Ultrastar, the NAS timeout defaults to being turned off.

CrystalDiskInfo's ratings are arbitrary. Do a scan with HDDscan and see what it reports for transfer speed and bad and marginal sectors. Slow transfer speed is a bad sign but can be due to something as simple as a loose or bad SATA cable.
