I know the cable works because the guy tested it when I bought it.
But now I just can't get the thing to work with my laptop and my TV.

TV - Philips 40PFL HD
Laptop - HP Pavilion G6 (Running Windows 7 32 bit)
What I've done - connected both end of the cable, but nothing shows up under choose display in the control panel.

Anything I can do?

Solution

well windows just install a generic driver that will work with your device. but you need the real driver from the manufacturer, is more complex and it is specially for that specific device.

OK. So if I read all correctly, you are trying to use your TV as a extended display, correct? if yes, then
connect the HDMI cable to the computer and the TV, now on the TV change the output to that HDMI output and you will be good to go.

I'm not six years old. You can safely assume I've done all that
The TV is a Full HD IPS LED, Yes, I have navigated to the correct HDMI option and have lowered the resolution.
But no luck. The PC doesnt even recognize that something has been plugged in.
