Hi! I would like to build a gaming rig. The parts I want to buy are:

- SSD: 512 Crucial MX100
- GFX Card: Gigabyte GTX 970 G1
- CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K
- CPU Cooler: Corsair H110
- RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3
- Case: NZXT 340
- Power Supply: Corsair CX750M

What motherboard should I choose and how expensive? I want a motherboard for gaming, that supports overclocking, SLI and has SATA Express. Do I need an expensive one? Do motherboards impact performance in games? Should I get the cheapest one that has SLI, SATA-E and overclocking? I would like some recommendations. I would like the motherboard to be black and red.

Solution
Motherboards have some impact on performance, but it is minimal and you can ignore it. The biggest difference is in features they support or don't support. So no, you don't need an expensive one for gaming, just make sure it is based on Z97 chipset (all Z97 chipsets support overclocking). For SLI and SATA-E you will need to read mobo specs. Unfortunately, most mobos with features you required are expensive models.

My suggestion would be MSI Z97 GAMING 5, approx. $145.

On a sidenote, I'd get a different PSU. Corsair CX series is average at best, and not recommended for SLI. Get Seasonic 750W or XFX 750W.
