Hello, I am upgrading my computers CPU and Mobo next month and I already have my parts picked out. I just dont know what steps I need to take in order to switch from a AMD CPU and MOBO to a Intel CPU and Mobo.

I am currently running an AMD-7850k (Terrible IMO), but next month I am switching to i7-4790K and GIGABYTE GA-G1.Sniper Z97 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard.

What steps do I need to take in order to complete this upgrade. I mean I know how to replace it physically but I don't know what I need to do to the hard drive, ram, etc.. I am not running an SSD. I have also purchased another copy of windows 7. I also am getting a aftermarket cooler.

Solution
There are no special considerations, except make sure your RAM is still supported by the new MoBo... I assume it is DDR3, so it will be, but just make sure.

Make sure you backup your system HDD (whatever you want to keep from there), and format that HDD. After installing everything else, you will have to do a fresh install of windows.

That's it.

Do I need to format it? I mean I dont want to have to wipe my harddrive unless I have too. I dont have a way to back it up either.
