Hello all, looking for some advice or personal experience on this topic.

I'm currently running with two PNY enthusiast edition 670's sli'd together. Not overclocked. Lately I've been considering an upgrade to the GTX980, but I'm having trouble making up my mind. Just wondering what you guys think. Is it worth the cost? Area of 550-650 dollars. Will I see a noticeable difference in gameplay? I've got the budget for it, but I'd like some input before I shell out the cash.

Currently I'm running with the two 670's, an I7 4790K clocked at 4.6 GHZ, with the ASUS maximus VII hero motherboard and 16 gigs of DDR3 ram. Monitor is an Asus 2560x1440.

Thanks in advance.

hi EdwardHau,

I would definitely go for the 980 if i had no cards in my system at the moment, but if your sli 670's are doing well then is there any point?
Speaking from a personal experience, I have the 4790k with 16 gigs of DDR3, asus z97-k and the Zotac gtx 970 amp omega. It is absolutely amazing in any game and you don't have any of the complications of sli, but it is up to you, how well are the 670's doing?

The 670's are performing fairly well at the moment. I suppose my concern is for the future, I plan on purchasing both Far Cry 4 and Shadow of Mordor, along with a few other upcoming titles. My goal is to play these games at fairly high settings at the 2560x1440 resolution, while maintaining healthy framerates. I suppose I won't know for sure how my current cards will hold up to these games until I've actually purchased them, but I'm trying to plan ahead. Currently I'm playing World of Warcraft predominantly and I kind of doubt I'd see much of a performance difference between the 670's and the 980's in that game, but I'm not sure. I guess the goal currently is to hold onto the 670's as long as I can, while still being able to enjoy current titles with higher settings and frame rates.

Yeah World of warcraft isn't that gpu intensive so your 670's are fine, but games like farcry 4 are a totally different story. I am yet to purchase farcry 4, but other extremly gpu intensive games i can play on my 970 all ultra and high fps, so the superior 980 will be pretty good :p . But for now until you start to hit barriers with the 670's I would stick with them.

That's pretty much what I'm leaning towards at the moment. I've been happy with the 670's the entire time I've had them, I suppose I just start to get that itch when I approach the two year mark of running with a particular card. Ideally I'd like to hold off until Nvidia's next generation, but I'm always open to a current card generation owner (970 or 980) trying to convince me to make the jump.
