So, how does AMD Crossfire actually work? Currently, I have an FX6300 and a xfx R9 280x, if I upgrade my CPU (to avoid a bottleneck) and want to get a second graphics (I probably would need to upgrade my power supply) what would my r9 280x be compatible with?
Thanks for looking at my question.

Solution
You could crossfire it with another 280X or a 7970ghz edition. Crossfire allows 2 cards to work together, however, the cards will work at the speed of the slower and only uses one of the cards memory.

I am running 2x 6870's now and each has 1gb of its own memory, but they only use the memory from one of the cards. Also, one was factory overclocked and the other wasn't. The OC'd card was automatically underclocked to match the standard card, which I ended up OCing to get them both running at the faster speed.
