Early in December I purchased a Sapphire Tri-X R9 290 OC for a pretty damn good price, $260 on NewEgg. After installing the card and running some benchmarks, I stupidly threw away the packaging. The card ran great all day and night, but when I went to turn on the computer the next morning it would not POST. I fiddled with the connections for an hour and re-installed the card, and suddenly it was working again, and it worked great for the rest of the day. The next day after work I came home and turned on my computer, and the damn thing wouldn't POST again. Another hour of messing with it and I got it running yet again. After the third time this happened I decided to RMA the card.

NewEgg rejected my RMA because I didn't have the packaging, so I am forced to use Sapphire's outsourced RMA process through Althon Micro, who handles all of Sapphire's RMA and Warranty service.

The card Althon sent back to me gives no display output whatsoever, although I can hear the system booting into Windows. Every connection has been quadruple checked on my end. My UEFI is up-to-date. I've connected different rails from the PSU. I've disabled onboard video. I've reset the BIOS to defaults. Althon says they tested this particular card and it works fine.

What the hell? Any ideas? Are there compatibility issues with my motherboard?

My system specs:
Seasonic SS-660XP2 PSU (80-Plus Platinum)
Asus Z87-A mobo
Core i7 4770k
8 GB Crucial RAM DDR3 1866
Seagate 600 Series 240GB SSD
2x 1TB WD HDDs, one blue and one green

Solution
Make sure bios is being told to use your pci-e card and not integrated.
Boot into safe mode if you can (Hit f8 while booting)
Disable intel's display adapter
reboot.
