It appears you can run up to 16GB of memory, and the H57 chipset should support any processors up to the first-generation i7-8xx series (95w TDP). Gateway's support page seems to agree with this. If you do want to upgrade, make sure the power supply in your system can handle it, and that there is sufficient cooling for a more powerful processor.
