hi. i just purchase my new cooler. cooler master hyper 212.and im i think im ready for some overclocking. i know my pc is quite old. but i want it to reach its max potential.

My current specs :
Core 2 quad 9400
Asus p5g41c-m lx
evga gt 210
2x4 kingston 8gb ddr3 1333
cooler master hyper evo 212
250gb hdd
cougar sl 500w psu
deepcool z5 thermal paste

i've read that my mother board is a budget and not so good in overclocking. i dont to spend money buying new motherboard for my cpu. because i planning to upgrade my cpu and mobo to 4770k and asus z87 boards if i do have the enough budget. but for now. i want at least maximize my current pc.

some said that my mobo is not a good overclocker. but i have a great cooler master hyper 212.
is it safe to overclock my pc? i want to overclock my cpu from 2.66ghz to 3.+ghz. or at least 3.2ghz

i can add good cpu fans if needed.

pls help!! i need to overclock especially when i use rendering 3d soft.

thanks in advance

If your motherboard allows you to change the clock speed then you can overclock that chip. My old desktop computer uses a Q9400 on a Gigabyte motherboard with an aftermarket cooler. I was able to run my chip at 3.8GHz in testing, it has run for 4+ years at 3.4 GHz.

When you start testing it, run a program like "coretemp" to check the cpu temperatures. The temperatures will tell you if it is safe or not.

hey ,

please tell me model no of ram are you using ? most of 4gb ddr3 rams dont seem to work with this board.

edit : my questions is not related to the original issue. i have the same motherboard and i cant find 4gb ddr3 ram that can work on it.
