Hey guys--

I built my first computer last month, but recently the USB wifi adapter isn't allowing me to consistently connect to the internet. It'll connect to my network just fine, no problems there, but after a few moments, or a few minutes if I'm lucky, the connection stops working. It'll still say "connected" & there are no problems found by the troubleshooter, but when I pull up a page on chrome, it'll "wait for website to respond" for several minutes before saying that the webpage cannot be displayed. Similarly, iTunes can't connect to the store, games won't connect to their servers. This computer has worked fine (at least for a few minutes) on other networks, ie. phone's hotspot, my university's & Geeksquad's internet. But all my other devices work just fine on the home network -- so I'm having a hard time figuring out what's wrong. This is the second USB adapter I've purchased.

I've tampered with setting the DNS to Google's and manually changing the IP address, and though the IP address change seemed to help in the short term, for a few minutes after the change, I ultimately ended up with the same problem. I have tried resetting the modem/router. I've gone into the adapter settings too & disabled the powersaving options. Tampered with BIOS USB options also, though I'm not super familiar with all the stuff going on there; enabled USB legacy mode or whatever.... as far as I know all of the drivers are up to date.

Okay, specs:

--router/modem combo: most recent model from Comcast. They're calling it the "XFINITY Voice Modem"

--ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS AM3+ AMD 760G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

--Power supply: Corsair Builder Series CX 500 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS (CX500)

--USB Wifi adapter: Linksys WUSB6300 Wireless-AC USB Adapter

--Windows 8.1

--depending on the time of day, 2-6 devices are connecting to the router.

--No error messages.

Please help!! :(
