Would upgrading from a Fx6300 to a I5 4790 make a huge difference in games?

I'm thinking about upgrading to intel to get better frames in gaming. I'm just now sure if the upgrade would make a huge difference.

I have a sapphire r9 280x dual-x

Thanks!

Would it make a big difference? I couldn't find any game benchmarks with the fx 6300 overclocked (maybe I'm not looking hard enough. lol)

My mother board is a Gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 rev 4.

Depending on what you play, it could make an enormous difference. I went from an overclocked FX-6300 to a stock 4770k. My framerate in BF3/BF4 multiplayer went from 45-75 to 70-120.

GPU's do not create performance bottlenecks, as visual quality is adjustable. CPU's create performance bottlenecks. So yes, a CPU upgrade will make a huge difference regardless of what GPU it is paired with.

Every CPU has a certain GPU limit after which , the GPU is bottlenecked . FX 6300 can handle R9 270X easily . R9 280X is faster , so i hope overclocking will help .

Overclocking will help, but an i5 would be quite a bit better depending on what games he's playing.

Some people would be happy with the small boost from overclocking. Others are willing to spend some dough to get a major boost. An i5 will be a major boost in CPU intensive games (64 player FPS's, MMO's, RTS's...). Those are the types of games I tend to play, so the small boost from overclocking the FX-6300 didn't cut it for me. The larger boost from the Intel migration was much more satisfactory.
