http://pcpartpicker.com/p/JpB7dC thats the link to the build im going to be ordering soon once i fully establish it. I know the SSD might not be the BEST one out there but im on a budget and i cant spend more than this. i dont have a aftermarket cooler BECAUSE i dont plan on overclocking right away. i will at some point in the future but surely not right after i get it.

If you are truly on a budget, get a budget case and put the $$ into a Samsung evo SSD and/or get the 2TB barracuda.

I notice you're also missing a cooler, and your setup is ripe for o/c ing, definitely get a coolermaster hyper 212 evo or similar.

Im sticking with this psu because i plan on overclocking LATER and the difference between 9 and 10 cas ram is miniscule...

Im not going to oc straight away as i said in the post...... i take it you didnt read all of what i said? :/ im not going to spend an extra 30 bucks on a cooler right now. ill do that later and oc it all later. im already kind of over my budget so i might even take away the SSD

I dont need an aftermarket cooler yet... i know you bought one and you dont oc but there is no point in buying one if youre not going to oc... :/ they work fine seeing as they are free with the cpu.

yes I did - I gave you two suggestions that would improve your build. however the standard cooler deserves to go straight into the bin. you'd save yourself a hassle by putting it in now and you have $ if you simply get a cheaper case. obviously your choice and i'm not the only one to raise it but that's my advice for you and you asked. good luck with it the i5 4690k and 970 is a mad combo.

The difference in gaming performance if you OC is likely to be miniscule too

The RAM is still low end junk

The only reason to use a 750 watt psu would be if you planned to SLI . More than 550 watts is not needed even if you are overclocking

If you bought a competent $70 case you could have a better build in almost every way

I actually AM planning on going sli with the 970 and i DO plan on overclocking LATER, maybe even never.

Outlander,

If you want to get picky about the memory, at least get picky about something that actually makes a difference in some workloads, the CAS 10 is a non issue compared to the fact that they are single rank DIMM's. 1600-9-9-9 vs 1866-10-10-10 vs 1866-9-9-9 would be for all intents and purposes, so close it doesn't matter (+/-1%)..

On the other hand....

Even a SLOWER speed with LOOSER timings (1600-11-11-11) in dual channel with rank interleave (dual rank dimms) will out-perform 1866-10-10-10 in dual channel without rank interleave by ~5-10% in some workloads.

It shouldn't matter to me because i only really plan on gaming and doing homework on it right? or should i ACTUALLY invest 20+ more dollars into getting nice ram sets. i dont want to but i will if i have to, if it'll truly make a difference in what ill be doing with this pc. I chose the kingston fury white because well, they're white and i want my build to look nice since there is a window, i like being able to look inside and see it all

Keep the color theme alive and don't worry about the performance, it's a non issue.

You could add another 2x4GB kit (same kit) later, and then you'll have 2 ranks installed per channel, and take advantage of both channel and rank interleave ;)

If you were going to spend more now in an effort to get the dual rank, I would just advise a 2x8GB "white" kit, as all 8GB DDR3 UDIMM's are dual rank. That way you get twice the quantity, rank interleave, and maintain the Fury white looks...

Oh... and don't forget an Arctic brand CPU cooler (white/black theme) ;)

Oh yeah, what would be a good white and black cpu cooler? and also, should i actually even overclock my cpu? I want to go sli later but idk if ill have enough power. Should i not overclock? If i should, will it even make a difference in game fps because i know lots of games nowadays are mostly gpu based which is why they call for a good gpu more so than a good cpu. right? Should i overclock the gtx 970's instead of the cpu? or can i even go sli AND overclock the cpu and gpu without making the psu explode?

Do you really need a new copy of windows? With the announcement that win7 will get a free upgrade to 10, I would try and use my previous version (unless it was an OEM) That's 90 bucks off the keep your SSD in budget

Well :/ i'd still have to pay 88 bucks for windows 7. Also windows 8/8.1 users can get the free windows 10 upgrade. i just looked it up

Normally I would say Arctic i30, but it's pretty big and hangs with low clearance. Probably will not fit over top the Fury heatsinks.

That leaves their smaller options like the i11, which is still actually very adequate for some overclocking, but wouldn't give you the headroom of the i30.

Overclocking is really going to be more for the sport of it than out of necessity in most cases. There are a few compute intensive games that people purposely overclock to help overcome performance issues in though. You'll figure out if you should overclock along the way. If it interests you, I say go for it and learn how to do it, if you don't care about overclocking for the sake of overclocking then just leave it be until you have a reason to try that is greater than "for the sake of it."

OKay, I was suggesting using your current windows unless it's an OEM version.
