Title. Basically which graphics card would I need to buy to max out most games without it being overkill? Thanks :)

Yeah for the price 139 the gtx 660 is pretty hard to beat and will handle your resolution just fine, for another 10 you could have the 270 vanilla and it will be another step up as you can see using the link below.
