Alright so I started getting this BSOD a couple of weeks ago. Problem is I don't know what's causing it. From what I can deduct, my ram or google chrome is the problem but I have no idea what I'm talking about. My ram was running 1333mhz and I changed it to run at 1600mhz in the bios, I can't remember if my BSODS started before that or after. After a couple of BSODS, I changed the ram back to 1333mhz. But interesting thing is I mostly BSOD when using Chrome. I opened 10 tabs in firefox and loaded Skyrim with mods to push my ram usage over 4gb (as I have 8gb installed 2x4), and nothing happened. I would like to resolve this issue with your help please. Is there anything I can upload so you can read and see what the problem is?

Yeah, I forgot to mention: there's a utility called Memtest+ that is free and available for download from many sources. It's considered to be a reliable indicator of RAM health. Any errors detected by Memtest+ indicate faulty RAM. As for why it's unstable at the rated speed, I don't have a good answer at this point. Let's first see what Memtest+ tells us.

Sigh this is the ram I bought http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311_312_612&item_id=044295. Now I remember it had xmp profile and when I saw that it was running at 1333mhz, I searched for the xmp profile but could not find it, so I set the dram frequency in the bios from auto to 1600mhz. I completed 1 pass of memtest and it found no errors. I did the test with both sticks installed in dual channel. Does this mean I can eliminate ram problems and blame it on chrome?

Edit: No I did not touch any voltage settings on none of the components.

I'm pretty sure if memtest starts getting errors, it will be because the ram was stressed for too long and from the heat. If after the second pass it still does not find any errors, I will simply stop using chrome. But why would chrome cause a bsod in the first place?

It's desirablel to run Memtest+ for longer than one pass: start it up before you sleep and let it run all night if you can. But it's encouraging that no errors were detected during your first run. I see that the stock voltage of your DIMM's is 1.5V. Take a peek in your BIOS and make sure that the RAM's getting 1.5V. If not, manually set the voltage to 1.5V, then fire up Chrome and see what happens.

Edit: Lot's of open browser tabs eats up a lot of memory. Thayt's why we're looking there. I've also experienced this BSOD with a couple of my past PC's and replacing the RAM solved the problem.

Lol 5 seconds after I open Chrome it bsods, and that is with 1 tab, nothing else running, so the ram is definitely not stressed (for example, I open chrome, type google.com, start typing something in the google.com search bar, boom bsod) . And I installed Chrome about the same time I started getting bsods, but I can't remember if it was before or after. And like I said, I was running Skyrim with 270 mods and 10 tabs of firefox opened and had no bsods. I even spawned 30 dragons, 60 dremora lords, 100 guards in Solitude (not all at the same time, little by little) and it ran just fine (except the framerate, but that is expected). And I played this mini-war I created in Solitude for about 2 hours and had no problems. So, wtf is wrong with Chrome and my computer?

An interesting problem... Everything's running fine except Chrome, which crashes your system! Perhaps there was a patch or update to Chrome soon before your trouble started? I've no idea, but I suppose I'd stay with Firefox until the next version/patch for Chrome is released, then give it another shot. I don't think I have any more advice for you, LonelyMan.

It's worth uninstalling Chrome and reinstalling it, if this is the only app that's crashing. Be sure to do a proper uninstallation if you try this (make sure to delete any trace of the "old" files before reinstalling). It's possible that a critical file was corrupted when you were running the DIMM's out of spec.

Since my last post on this thread, I have had 0 bsods, AND my ram is now running at 1600mhz. Computer is running perfectly. All I did was stop using google chrome. VERY strange problem indeed.
