Recently I did some maintenance and updates on my sister's laptop. Afterwards her wireless stopped working. Read a few guides on this and uninstalled then reinstalled an older version of the driver. However it's still not working. By not working I mean it's not showing any connections. Also, yes airplane mode is off.

I'm using a HP laptop, and the network adapter is a Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller.

Also, wired connection still works fine on it. Just wireless that's being a pain.

UPDATE: I revealed hidden devices and found two more things.
1. Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter
2. Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn Wi-Fi Adapter

Well it was working completely fine before this, and and there are numerous reports of this problem, so I doubt it's a hardware issue. This would also take up one of the very few USB ports.

Just says "connect Ethernet cord" even after I press skip. I'm using the "refresh" function on it which is apparently a factory reset that keeps personal files and documents but erases applications and updates. I'll let you know how it goes.

I've done the refresh, and it's fixed nothing. Applying the rest of the windows 8 updates but I'm not hopeful. Any other idea?

I think I'm experiencing something similar to monitor mode. However the only network adapter I have is the PCIe family controller, the ralink one isn't showing up. I've done a factory reset by the way.
