gaming pc, need advise

You have selected a very cutting edge build, however I have some advice I'd give...

First of all, get a more powerful PSU. 450w isn't enough to do justice to a GeForce 970 GTX and will definitely not be enough if you run SLI on your Motherboard - something you might want to do in the future. I'd recommend a 700w or higher PSU just in case you choose SLI. If you're absolutely certain you don't want SLI at a later time then there are cheaper, non-SLI Motherboards to choose, and you can settle for a 550w PSU.

Apart from that, you've chosen an excellent build.

If only gaming then going with an i5 will result in no performance loss.
Again if only gaming 8gb RAM is enough. You can buy another 2X4 gb kit later.
A 850w good quality psu for future SLI and even overclocking.
The hyper 212 will handle the i5 just fine.
A 256gb ssd.
A 3TB hdd.
A cheaper but high quality case.

Mother Board:

You chosen a Z87 motherboard for 4790k Devil's Canyon. I suggest you to go Z97 motherboard like ASUS Maximus VII Hero. Z97 boards are new and better than Z87 boards. If you are not a serious overclocker, you can get ASUS Z97-A board. So it is upto you to choose between both based on your requirement.

SSD:

The 840 evo is kindda old yet a good choice. But i would suggest you to get 850 evo as it is built using 3D V-NAND technology which is new and gives good result in real time but expensive too. So again it is upto you to choose between both as both of them are good products.

Power Supply:

The one thing I will insist you to change is the PSU. 450 Watts for a gaming rig??? Come on bro. Please get a good PSU of at least 550 Watts. I am a Seasonic fan so i will suggest you to go with Seasonic 550Watts 80+ Gold rated Power Supply or 520watts 80+ bronze rated Power Supply(depending on your budget). But Antec and Corsair(Seasonic is Corsair's OEM) are equally good. So its your decision to make.

Other than these three things, your build looks solid. All the best for your new rig :)

Here, I've made certain changes and give you GTX 980 in almost the same price. You don't need Extreme edition in Z87 chipset unless you are too much in overclocking.l Not advisable. Why paying premium for this corsair ram when you can get more reliable and same speed but with CAS 9 latency RAM from G.Skill. Also, 450W PSU won't do the job here. I've included 750W here. check the build:
