I recently took one of my HDDs out of my PC and used a sata to USB to connect it to my computer. I've found it produces and extraordinary amount of heat and heats up the room my PC is in.

Can any of you guys think of a solution?

Thanks.

Solution
Hi there Jonathan Conrad,

It may be a good idea to test the drive with a brand specific testing software. In case the drive is healthy, any external enclosure should do the job.

Hard drives put out a lot of heat, which is why they are usually inside the chassis or an enclosure that is designed to help dissipate the heat. They will get very warm and this is normal, it all depends on speed, usage and location.
