Just occured to me when shopping for MSI gtx 970. My motherboard is an asus z97-A. The pci-e slot is fully compatible with the card. But this is bothering me, am I missing out on anything by not getting the asus variant.

I'm not talking about the card itself (though the gtx 970 strix is still a great card) but are there any benefits to have the motherboard and the gpu from the same brand other than cosmetics and/or conveniance

Thanks

No they don't have to be, even they are it does not have any special perks or anything, i mean if you would like it to be all GIGabyte OR MSI brand than go for it nothing wrong with that
