i7 u vs mq for graphic design(not video encoding)

HI!! i'm actually looking for a laptop to do some graphic design and play some games, mi question is, whats the big difference between this two models? is it really vital to get the quad model? in my country its really expensive and the the U model its available at a reasonable price

Quite a bit. I7 u chips are dual cores with hyperthreading. They have less cache and a lower base and boost clock.

i7 mq are true quad cores, with hyperthreading, 2 more MB cache and a higher base and boost clock.

All in all a faster chip. U series chips use a lot less power, so if battery life is important then it may be something to consider.

MQ chips are going to be faster at pretty much every task. Laptop will be a little heavier as well probably.

For graphic design you will probably want a basic discrete video card.

About the same actually. Both dual cores with hyperthreading. i5 boosts to 3.1 Ghz, but starts at 2.4Ghz. i7 boosts to 3.0Ghz but starts at 1.8Ghz. i5 surrenders a little cache memory as well.

Video cards are practically identical (re-branded GPU essentially)

When plugged in they would be about the same. When mobile the i7 should provide the better battery life.
