I read a sticker on my new graphics card that my graphics board has to be plugged into my power supply... Wehn I am building my PC should my PSU be plugged in? Turned on?
the power supply should always be off power until all the system is build and set up to go . the sticker says you need to plug the psu cable on the gpu to power it so it could work .
Psy & Scout are correct it is best the PS be off and it would also be good if you wore a wrist strap to protect your parts while you build your computer. When your build is near complete you can attach the PCI-E power connector(s) to the VGA card.
if your components are plugged in and powered while you are plugging things in and out of your motherboard, you risk electrical shock to both yourself and your components.
If your still alive...please turn t off untl you've completed your Dream Machine then let your Power Supply ROCK IT!Makesure you ave enough Power for all your Components... Check WATTS to be used OR Power Supply needs by Pre Building your PC here:
Many people leave the PSU power switch on but the wall socket mains switch turned off.
This means all components are grounded by the mains earth/ground wire.
Obviously never do this with the power turned on.
