Hope this is the correct category for this question. I'm trying to connect my Acer 5750-6748 to my Samsung HDTV via HDMI. When I select the source on the TV (HDMI-2) 90% of the time I get this error message "weak or no signal". I've tried various ways to make it work like rebooting the computer, disconnect/ reconnect cable, scroll thru the input select, use the Fn key feature and others . All have worked from time to time, sometimes individually sometimes in various combinations, but nothing works all the time. Also I have checked the settings and have cloned the displays and made the TV the primary display. And finally once a connection is made if I choose another source it may or may not reconnect to the HDMI. So my problem is intermittent and very hard for me to diagnose. Does anyone have any suggestions?

How long is your HDMI cable? Have you tried a different HDMI cable?

If you have a particularly long cable (or the HDMI out your laptop puts out very little signal), you may want to try a Redmere cable. Those take power from the TV, transmit to the other end of the cable, and use it to boost the signal coming from your laptop before it's transmitted to the TV. They cost a little more, but have been very effective in my experience.
