I am considering building a new gaming pc sometime in the future, and I was wondering if it was ok to use the old power supply from my current build. Here is my power supply:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371067&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

I used it in a build a little over a year ago and have only been using one R9 280X on it. Was planning on getting two but didn't happen. Is it safe to use it again since it didn't get much use?

Solution
Nice PSU, should be fine based on the following

1) NEW PC FITS that PSU (case, position of cabling, etc.)
2) New PC Components (GPU, Mobo) take THOSE cable connections and do not need "OTHER" types
3) As long as there was no previous issues with that PSU
4) Don't toss a 850W into a 'low end' PC as it is waste and potentially could overpower the system
5) Don't toss a 850W into a 'HIGH end' PC with current SLI capable card combos, the 'pull' on them is MORE then 1KW per hour and normally need 1200W PSUs as 850W is too 'low' for all the parts PLUS SLI

try to remember you are powering more than just a graphics card everything inside the pc case and everything conected outside the pc case beside the monitor and speakers are being powered by your psu so it has seen a little more than minor usage also remember that PSUs degrade over time after a year of use you should still be getting 80-85-90% of the same power you were getting out of the box so to answer your question yes it should be safe to use it in another build given it is less than 4 years old
