New to this thread, I just bought a ASUS h81M-E motherboard and switched it in for my old MSI Military class 2 which had a Intel i2 2300 in it (I believe) and switched to a Intel i7 4790 and after I connected all that I could (smaller mobo so I didn't have all the ports I used to have) I went and tried to power it on and nothing comes on. The Fans don't come on or anything. I have a 750w Power Supply.

You're gonna need to update the bios.

Always, always, always check the CPU support list for a motherboard when choosing a CPU. See, next to your CPU on Asus's CPU support list for your motherboard, it says:

*Before using the new Intel 4th Gen Core processors, we suggest that you first download the BIOS updater for new Intel 4th Gen Core Processors and then update the BIOS using this tool.

The bios that shipped with the motherboard is likely not the version that officially supports the newer 4th gen CPUs or higher, which could cause the issue you're having.

To update the bios, you have to have a compatible CPU installed. Otherwise, your only option is to install a bios chip that has a compatible bios version. Contact Asus for more information about that.

Even if the CPU was not supported the fact that there was no half a second of spinning fans indicated that that is probably not the problem. Very likely the PSU is not on, a cable was not attatched, or the power switch cable is plugged in the wrong spot.

Yes the computer was prebuilt before I had it I had a friend build it and then I have slowly added parts to it. This is my first big build I guess you could say because the biggest I have done were some cpu and graphics card swaps.

Well I was able to get the computer to get up and running now. It turns out that my power cables were indeed inserted into the wrong spot but now I have no picture. I have read several threads and they say to update the bios. Any input fellas?

Yeah I have figured that out thanks very much for the responses. Now I am hunting down a celeron processor so I can update the Bios. Hopefully my hunting will not last longer than needed!
