Hi folks I'm new to this forum and hoping someone can help. It's basically about my lack of productivity while working.

I work from home most days or I'm traveling for work. My problem is that certain sites (not porn) are a time suck for me during my days when I'm working in my home office. I'd like to block that particular website just on my one computer that I use for work. But I only want to block it when I'm on my home network and don't want any other devices to be blocked from these websites.

Any tips on what I could do to set that up for one computer on a particular network?

Thanks,
Paul

Most routers with parental control features will allow you to block sites based on a schedule. But how you go about blocking a site will depend on the exact router you have. Since the block happens on the router, then once you leave home and join another network then those sites will be available.

If you are only looking at a single web site and you trust yourself to not undo the security you can just map the URL to a invalid or your loopback ip in the HOSTS file. The location varies a bit depending on which version of windows you have.

This method works on all machines. You can also just put in a firewall rule that blocks the site if you have a firewall loaded on your pc.

I agree with laskisa. You can set up any internet filter software on your PC that will block a certain website automatically as soon as you add it in the list. You can try out: http://www.workexaminer.com/internet-filter-software.html. Actually I am using this software to monitor my workers, but it is quite multifunctional and used to block certain website on PC.
