Build

Cpu- Intel haswell 5960k 8 core CPU

Graphics- Gigabyte Radeon r9 295x2

Motherboard- Asus rampage v deluxe X99 motherboard

Ram-16gb corsair vengeance 2888Mhz DDR4 RAM 4x4gb

Corsair atx 860i 860 watt PSU

Running on water cooling (maintaining good temperature on cpu and GPU, in the 30's for CPU and always below the 75 on the GPU)

Now to detail the problems.

1. When I start running certain games, it can just full on crash my computer. It doesn't seem to crash, until you try mess with the settings, particularly antialiasing and v sync. It happened on metro last light and max Payne. GTA IV crashed the desktop, but not the whole computer, GTA was stuttery as hell as well. Other games work without a hassle, resident evil remake, batman arkham city, Scribblenauts, but then others have crashes or else graphical errors(even meat boys is weird, and won't display properly)

2. My computer won't let me output to my Samsung hu7200 in anything higher than 1080p. It just doesn't show up in the windows settings. I can make the graphics card "fake it" by going into the graphics settings and doing the super rendering and it goes to 3200x1800.

Does anyone know what might be causing it. I don't know for sure, but I've heard the PSU can cause crashes like this, but with an 860 watt, would this happen when playing games? I got recommended the specs by a mate who knows more about computers than me, but decided to ask here, because he seems to be a bit unsure on certain things, better to come and ask the experts. Thanks for your time.

Okay, what settings do you play on, if it is on ultra, then 1x 295x2 is not enough, and why do you have AA on when there's only 1x 295x2, completely unnecessary for 4k and a waste of effort to put on the GPU. Which cable are you use? Are you using any adapters? I'm 100% sure it is the adapters, because there is no HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 cable or adapters that work properly. So there's your problem with can't display 4k. If you have any other UHD TV other than the one I have, then the gtx 970 or 980 is better for you because they have HDMI 2.0. Or you can wait for the new 390x from AMD, but I'm not sure about the specs.

No over clocking. This is essentially like running 2 r9 290's isn't it? So I can easily run ultra on any 1080p at the highest settings. Might need to go lower in 4k when I get that displayed properly, but the games were crashing in 1080p displayed.

1st of all, is your BIOS version up to date? download bios and directly flash in BIOS, not in Windows!

do basic error searching:

memtest86+ (install on usb stick and boot from it)

prime95 (option smallfft) + coretemp
furmark
each tool 10minutes and post temp of gpus and cpu while stress testing

download drivers from amd.com and check chipset drivers with intel update utility

update the firmware of your TV

Well, I'm afraid the only options is to get a new GPU, or a new TV that has displayport, because my TV is the only existing UHD TV that has displayport. There is literally "none" HDMI 2.0 to DP 1.2 out there. I searched for days for this, but there is none, so I gave up with trying to find one and went with a TV with DP instead. Also, only HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 can display 4k@60Hz, other can only display 4k@30Hz.

BIOS is up to date along with all the latest drivers for the graphics card. I'll try update my TV as well and I'll install those error checkers. Generally when it's crashing, it reboots to BIOS. My TV does support HDMI 2.0, So I can just use that for 4k at 60hz, can't I?

Titan black editon 1 - 3840x2160 at 30Hz or 4096x2160 at 24Hz supported over HDMI. 4096x2160 (including 3840x2160) at 60Hz supported over Displayport. Support for 4k tiled MST displays requires 326.19 driver or later.

Supported Technologies GPU Boost 2.0.

I have no idea why you're crashing though, since you're not at 4k ultra settings, that can't be the cause. It could be your PSU, but kinda doubtful. But the only thing I can suggest about 4k@60Hz is to wait for an adapter that actually works, however long that is. Or wait for the new 390x I just hope it'll have HDMI 2.0, that would be your shortest wait.

Thanks for all the replies. I did some tests(this is to do with the crashing, I've accepted the 4k dilemma) and I can say that I'm pretty sure it's to do with the graphics card. Crysis 2 will crash without getting into even the menus, but with on board graphics, it seems to not crash when I start it. I'm on the omega drivers, the latest ones, so I'm going to try using earlier versions of the drivers to see if this fixes it, as well as update the BIOS if I'm not on the latest. Anything else I can try?

Well, I haven't tried Crysis 2 yet, I wanted to play Crysis 1 to know the story but it keeps crashing on me, or rather freeze my PC in a black screen, so I skipped to Crysis 3, I'm not sure if Crysis 2 will give me the same issues, so it could be the game. But about the AMD drivers, I'm not sure if that'll help, if it does, then somehow your is backwards of mine, my drivers used to crash with the 295x2, but after I installed the Omega driver, I haven't had a single crash at all.

I completely uninstalled the card and reinstalled and it seemed OK, for 5 minutes. Then it crashed again. I'm kind of at the end of my rope here. I'm going to check the BIOS version and if it's not up to date, update. This is only a new build and my first PC, so really annoyed that this stuff is happening. It wouldnt be possible that the card is faulty, would it?

Well, nothing is perfect, so sometimes they can be defective. Everything has it's own problems.

A Friend of mine. I was going to go nvidia on the card, but he told me this card was on sale for less than a 980 and is much more powerful. I'm going to try a few more things like fully reinstall windows and update the BIOS. If it still doesn't work, I may have to accept that think it's faulty.

Well, some of the things are extremely unnecessary, like the CPU and RAM, if you are doing some kind of heavy video/photo editing, then they are necessary, but if this is just for mostly gaming, the 5960x was a huge waste, but if you got the money, then why not :) You could've got the i7 5930k like me and got a 2400MHz RAM and it'd still be very good for editing too. Then you could've got a 2nd 295x2 and a 1600w PSU. But I guess it is too late now, unless you got more $ :D

Also, where did you get a Gigabyte 295x2? I've never seen a Gigabyte 295x2.

Don't want to spend more money haha. It isn't just for games, it's for heavy music recording and editing as well as video editing, so I wanted something really good that I won't need to replace any parts for the very foreseeable future. ;p

Oh and I got the gigabyte r9 295x2 from.over clockers UK, it was on massive sale, so I just had to get it haha. I contemplated getting 2, but thought it was a bit unnecessary to have essentially 4 cards. ;p
