BIOS Says 1333 MHz Task Manager Says 2400. Which One Shall I Trust? (2x8GB 2400MHz)

So, I'm using 2x8GB sticks of 2400MHz RAM, with an ASUS Z97-a motherboard. When I go into the BIOS, it shows 1333MHz for the RAM speed, and I've tried changing it from auto RAM speed to 2400MHz in the BIOS, but when I saved and exited and then went back into the BIOS it still said 1333MHz for the RAM. So, I started it up to check the Task Manager in Windows, and it says 2400MHz. So, am I safe, or should I still try to change some things in the BIOS?

On a side note, looking back at my previous RAM, I had some 1600MHz RAM installed, and the motherboard still showed 1333MHz. Never checked what Windows Task Manager said about it, but just thought I'd throw that in here.

Thanks for any help anyone can offer me!

OK. CPU-Z shows that your RAM is running at 1333 MHz (666 x 2: Double Data Rate)
You should not have to manually set the memory to run at a higher speed. Set everything you changed back to their default.

Then look in your MB manual around page 218. In BIOS there should be an XMP profile for Overclocking in section 2.5.1 for the CPU and again in 2.5.9 for the DRAM. I'm not real familiar with how Asus does this, but I believe you would set the AI Overclock Tuner to XMP mode than choose the DRAM speed you want in section 2.5.9. Save and exit BIOS.

Well, CPU-Z is showing a DRAM Frequency of 666.1/.3 MHz. I'm not too used to CPU-Z but I think that's what I'm supposed to be looking at. NB Frequency is switching between many different numbers, so I'm not sure what that means. And I'm not entirely sure what you mean by using the XMS profile for 2400MHz in BIOS. Sorry, I'm not entirely literate with that yet. I went into AI Tweaker, if I recall correctly, and changed the DRAM Frequency from Auto to 2400MHz, and I remember that it made a bunch of other changes to the RAM voltage/timings/etc once I went to save and exit. Hope that's what you were referring to, if not I'll try to go back into my BIOS and check around to see about the XMS profile. Thanks!

Alright, thanks I tried that. I set it to 2400MHz and it still showed up as 1333MHz on one part of the screen, but elsewhere in the BIOS it showed 2400MHz. And CPU-Z is now showing 1199.4MHz, which I assume is equivalent to 2400MHz which is what my RAM is rated at, so this solves my problem. Thanks!

Did you check the BIOS again after saving and exiting to see if it then showed the correct speed?

Btw...
You might be able to turn the XMP option in section 2.5.1 back to auto or manual if you want. I'm not entirely sure how that works with Asus new BIOS.
