I have been stuck between the Gtx 760 and R9 270x for a while ... and had finally decided to go with the R9 270x because my budget is 15/15.5K INR max, while the gtx 760 will cost me at least 17K.
But now i m seeing that Gtx 960 will be releasing quite soon. SO i m wondering whether i would go with GTX 760 (which is now almost 1.5 years old with Kepler) OR R9 270x (which is also i believe as much as old......AND an AMD card, which itself is Quite a big Disadvantage with Ubisoft FAVOURING Nvidia all the way, and though i complain about this, i can't stop playing ubisoft games) OR wait for Gtx 900 series card within my budget of 15K (if it is ever going to be released).

Also, what kind of disadvantage will i face with a older generation card like r9 270x or gtx 760 in comparison to a new generation card with new architecture? [P.S. I would be playing games like Crysis 3,BF4 Metro last light, GTA 5, Arkham knight and UPCOMING GAMES FOR NEXT AT LEAST 2-3 years on a 1600*900 max resolution ... and i want to get a near 40 fps at Ultra settings without AA on that res]

And one more thing, is it worth buying 4gb graphics card for my res and specs?Plz..mind u..my budget is limiting of course...

Sorry for the long qu, but help me out guys

Solution
Depends on price mate - recommended price is not necessarily going to be the store prices.
Expect demand to be high along with prices.
Its aimed at the r9 280/285 market not the 270x,against those cards its a fail IMO.
I would take it over the 760 or 270x but no doubt it will be more expensive to begin with.

Well i chcked on google, specs have been revealed with some benchmarks as well :D it looks like it is a slightly better card than Gtx 760 and it is a new one on the block, so it would be priced much higher than the 760...which itself is 17K INR.
Anyway, thanx for d quick reply...would really aprreciate if u anser the other questions of This thread...Disadvantages of older ac\rchitec...4gb Vram....R9 270x

they just launch the 960 here in our country and it cost 11,000 php (245 dollars) that price here is around the r9 280x.

but the gtx 960's performances is comparable sometimes even better than the gtx 770 which is stronger by a tad compared to the 280x

well you decide :D

As of about one day ago, it was "determined" that the R9 280 probably whips the 960 severely. Which means an overclocked R9 270x might as well. Of course, that's just speculation, but it's worth chewing on:

Also is it enuf for a R9 270x to be maxing upcoming games at d settings i mentioned?

yaa... still ..surely costlier than gtx 760...maybe... 760 would get a sizeable price drop

^ what i7baby says - however it'll likely be a month or 2 before it hits the Indian market & I can see it coming in at a premium price well above the 760.
The 270x if its in budget is a good card & won't let you down in the least.
The fact its 2 year old architecture makes no odds at all - all amd/nvidia seem to he doing at the moment with their new cards is focusing on lower power draw & temps- actual performance of the top end cards isn't really any different to what is was on the last gen of cards.
If you already have a PSU capable of running a 270x this is irrelevant.

2hb vram is plenty for 1600x900 resolution.

IF the benchmarks and 128 bit architecture being reported are even REMOTELY accurate, there is no way it should outperform the GTX 770. The reports I've seen say the R9 280 whips the 960, again, that's speculation since it has NOT been released for sale anywhere yet. Please feel free to correct me on that if I'm wrong by showing me an actual release review or verifiable benchmark.

So by all accounts if the 280 outperforms it there's no way the 960 could outperform the 770 as the 770 trades places with the 280 on scoring depending on game title or benchmark. But it really remains to be seen as it has an entirely different architecture so I guess it could go either way. I imagine the prices on the 280x and 285 are likely to see a change as AMD tries to position those cards in direct competition with the 960 so it might be worth it to wait a couple of weeks as see what really pans out with the 960 and it's competition.

Hey thanks madmatt30 so u r saying architecture and generation wont make a lot of difference in performance right? :D thats quite good a news .. And fyi.. i have a 600W PSU.

Yaa..darkbreeze... r u with madmatt30 about the architecture point and 4gb vram? Will i b able to max out games for coming 2-3 years on 900p without AA with a r9 270x?

with the 960 you would get lower power consumption and new driver and driver support - dx12 and some other features

i have HIS iceq x2 turbo 270x 2gb clocked at 1150 core and 1500 mem and i'll share to you my settings and FPS ingame
i got a monitor with 60hz so my max fps is 60.

crysis 3 very high textures, very high presets, x16 af, fxaa, lens flare on, motion blur disabled (makes me dizzy) @ 3840x1024 and get a stable 30 fps - @ 1680x1050 average 40 fps

battefield 3 ultra settings all maxed out everything you can think of @ 1680x1050 and get 50 min and 60 max
battllefield 4 ultra settings msaax4 hbao+ @ 1680x1050 and get average 50 fps - @ 3840x1024 i get a stable 30 min and max 40 fps

farcry 3 ultra settings msaa 2x hbao+ and enhanced @ 1680x1050 40 min - 60 max
farcry 4 ultra settings msaa 4x hbao+ and godrays enhanced @ 1680x1050 i get min 27 fps and max 31 fps
farcry 4 ultra settings fxaa ssao godrays off @ 1680x1050 and get 50-60fps

hope this helps - idk bout future games maybe the 270x will be good at ultra for atleast a year and med-high after 2-3 years.

the 960 will perform similar to a 770, either 2-3% faster or 2-3% slower. Ill bet money on it, im also predicting 3GB of VRAM to compete with the 280x.

I just think the 960 has been over hyped,it looks fairly decent but that 128bit bus is going to be crippling IMO.it may offer very clever data compression but when it boils down to it memory throughput is king when it comes to fast gpu's.the fact they've put put a card this good with only a 120w power draw is impressive ,to me its a worthy successor/upgrade to the 750ti more than anything else.
Do NOT expect amd to cut their mid range card prices - they're already at an all time low as it is - I doubt the 960 has them even slightly worried in the mid tier sector.

Whoaa Crysis 3 at 3840*1024 is at 30 fps??? really cant believe.... all net benchmarks show sub-30fps...like 24fps at JUST 1920*1080... HOW r u getting so much? well thanx for d dedicated info at 1600*900 :)
And yes...since u r having d same card i wish to buy... some more qu..
1. Have u OC-ed it?
2.Can u turn on farcry 4 Nvdiia God rays with ur r9 270x? not enhanced god rays...m asking cz i sa a utube video with nvidia god rays enabled on an R9 280x
3. How much Fps drop does it take...if it CAN be enabled?
4. No dx12 support for r9 270x???

^ god rays knocks 10-15fps on my gtx 970 so I'd expect it to near cripple an amd card to be honest.
With a 270x at your red you'll be pretty much looking at 50fps solid on high settings on most titles - just dont expect too much of it.
Even a 970 isn't capable of 60fps ultra on games like unity & farcry 4.

yaa..got it...mayb i would be a dropping my res a little...1366*768..but i want to keepy my settings at very high...thats all..is it too much to ask with a r9 270x?
And sig2525 had reported with enhanced god rays ON only... ijust wanted to know the fps drop for NVIDIA GOD RAYS specifically

wait till you see a guy on youtube playing bf4 multiplayer on 3 1080p monitors @ ultra settings using a 4gb version of the 270x - just search on 270x eyefinity and you'll see him.

stock clock is 1100 boost upto 1140 i oced a little to 1155 mhz
mem clock stock is 1400 i oced to 1500 mhz

haven't tried the nvidia godrays as it does not show in the option it may contribute to a 5 fps drop, the only one eating a large amount of the FPS would be the msaa - if i go 8x my fps drops to 20.

and about dx12 i doubt it because amd is busy improving mantle over dx.

you can play ultra with a 270x at 900p with no AA at 60fps easily, not locked but easily. Same with every other modern game, DA inquisition, Cod AW etc.... at 900p you will be at ultra for a long time, 2-3 years at most, ultra with no AA that is, 40-60fps.
