From a Radeon HD 6950 2GB to a GeForce GTX 960?

Would it be worth the time, money or even gaming capabilities, to go from a Radeon HD 6950 2GB to the newer GeForce GTX 960 that's just been released by Nvidia? My Radeon HD 6950 is 4 years old this year, so I'm looking to replace it soon and I think the fans are making noise as well, which leads me to believe that the card is on it's way out soon. I'm able to play almost anything and everything on the highest settings from 2014 with my Radeon HD 6950, so I wanted to know if this change would keep me up-to-date with 2014-15 games, drivers and compatibility.

Would it be a major and noticeable difference to change from the Radeon HD 6950 2GB to the GeForce GTX 960?

I've been doing some research, comparing and contrasting, but haven't found the best information on both cards so I wanted to get the pros' opinion on the forums.

Thank you, :)!!!

Personally, I wouldn't bother with a comparison as even a GTX 760 outperforms an HD 6950. You may want to wait until some benchmark results have been posted by reputable sites (Tom's, TechPowerUp, AnandTech, etc.) just so you have an idea of how the GPU performs in your favourite games. The last thing you want to do is sink money into a GPU and then discover that it underperforms.

Your motherboard won't bottleneck a GTX 960 at all.

Hmm, I think I understand what you're saying. So what should my next step be in deciding? Should I worry about the MoBo I currently, even though I can run my Radeon HD 6950 at full load or should I find a site that can run the benchmarks for both cards and compare there? The GTX is only $200 or so, so that's why I'm so interested and if it's that much of a substantial upgrade, I'll buy it right now on Newegg, since Newegg is advertising the hell out of it.

Thanks for all the help, bicyle_repair_man. I await your future responses.

Right now with my Radeon HD 6950 I can play Skyrim on Ultra, just like I did 3-4 years ago, Shadow of Mordor on high, ALMOST ultra, Wolfenstein on pretty much full settings, Far Cry on high to almost ultra and everything else more or less high to ultra, so I'm not SUFFERING for a new card, I just know it's time for an upgrade real soon.

Alright, that's all I needed to hear. Thanks a lot for the advice, my good man. Best thing to do is wait and research the info and benchmarks that come out along the way so I know what to expect like you said, not to mention it shouldn't become any more expensive than $200-220. Also, Newegg has the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as one of it's advertisements for this card, so I'm assuming it's going to be able to hand that game?

If that's the case, then I'll definitely get the GTX 960 in the coming months.

Wow, a "GTX 770", that's it for the Witcher 3? Get out of here, that's awesome. I guess a GTX 770 is more powerful than I thought. Gotta brush up on my knowledge. Alright, so that makes more sense. Thanks again for all the info, sir! I'll be awaiting the benchmarks and extra information put out by the top sites to solidify my solution further. You've been a big help!

Someone posted this on another forum: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Video Card: PowerColor Radeon R9 280 3GB TurboDuo Video Card ($149.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $149.99
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

To me, this seems like an INSANE deal, but then again, I'm not entirely sure what it is I'm talking about, so is this better than a GTX 960?

Thanks again!
