I built my own computer a year ago, ill list the specs at the bottom of this post. Recently whenever i play a game i have this issue. i run around and there is a slight stutter. if i see someone or start attacking, the stutter gets worse. its happens on all the games i play (DayZ, Borderlands, Counter Strike, anything) even if i turn the graphics to their lowest possible setting. Yes, my drivers are up to date.

Specs: CPU: Intel core i5-4670K @ 3.40GHz Motherboard: ASRock z87 extreme3 RAM: 8 gigs Video card: MSI R7950 TWIN FROZR 3GD5/OC Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit Monitor resolution is 1360x768 @60hz I have a 64 gig SSD with my OS on it and a 1 terabyte HDD

is thermaltake a no-go? is there a certain brand you'd recommend? or a certain wattage?

I must be mistaken. I looked up a review and they like the tr2, just usually when I use a power supply I don't reach for the tr2. I typically like evga or corsair. 600 watts should be sufficient though.

80 degrees is quite high. Are you running stock cooling? If so might check out the cooler master hyper 212 evo.

Theoretically you shouldn't. But if you do spend any money on cooling, at least on amd systems I like the hyper 212. Did you dust out the system with compressed air? Also you may want to try removing the stock heatsink and putting new thermal paste on to see if that helps. Also how is your airflow in the case?

yeah i dusted it out and took some q-tips to it even. i just ordered some thermal paste so once i get it on there ill update ya to let you know how it issssss. the airflow is good, im honestly not sure why the temps fluctuate so much but im glad i found the problem+solution!

Sometimes thermal paste breaks down with age. What kind did you order btw? Myself I'm partial to arctic silver 5.

I know my wife's laptop was acting like your system is, overheating, etc etc. I opened it up and cleaned the old paste from the cpu, then repasted the chip with arctic silver 5, so far no more complaints of heat or shutting down.

idle temps are around 65, currently not using my computer for obvious reasons. even if i dont need the thermal paste and its just the pins, doesnt hurt to reapply. so im waiting till my orders come in, then ill let you know how it effects my temps.
