Dell 1558 laptop with broken screen won't connect to tv via hdmi

Dell 1558 laptop with a broken screen up until this point has connected through an hdmi cord to the tv. For some reason now it won't connect to the tv. Iv used the function with f1 method which has not worked yet, as well as attempting to connect by using a VGA cord. Both have yet to work. I can sign into my desktop but since the screen is broken I can't see anything. Is there potentially a step by step process once on my desktop to make sure my display is set to external and more over any solution to my problem? Any help would be appreciated

Hitting ctrl-windows-p didn't work, it looks like it might bring up a window of some sort so I hit enter, still nothing, repeated the step but hit the down button then enter, nothing then the third time hit the down arrow twice and enter which caused my laptop screen to go black but still nothing registered on the tv. I'm still receiving "no signal check connected power source, cable connection, and source selection
