Hey all, I was looking for a way to connect my Gaming PC (Windows 7) on the 2nd floor to the router on the 1st floor.

My current setup is simply using my laptop as a wi-fi adapter/bridge, which is connected to my PC via an Ethernet cable. This actually works really well except I'd like for another device to do this for me so that I don't have to keep my laptop hooked to my computer most of the time.

I have been looking into wi-fi bridges, powerline adapters, and pci-wireless cards, but can't find any information about their pros and cons comparatively. My prime candidate at the moment is using http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZT23ZE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER as a wi-fi bridge. My questions are:

1. Will this perform better than pci-e wireless cards? Little antennas sticking out the back on my PC next to a wall seem like they won't get great reception vs a bridge that sits on top of my desk, and this seems to be the closest to my current setup except for the small problem of...

2. How difficult is it to switch to another network using a wi-fi bridge? I have a couple of networks I use depending on speed and bandwidth at times. In my current setup I have to switch networks on my laptop but its fast and easy by just using my laptop's Network and Sharing Center. If I'm using the adapter, will I need to open the software to switch to a different network adapter every time or can I do it from my PC's Network and Sharing Center somehow?

3. I have basically ruled out powerline adapters because it seems their speed is throttled down too much, but not entirely sure. Is this a viable option for gaming?

4. Are there any recommendations for a "best fit" for my problem?

Thanks for the help!

After reading you're reply I went and looked at powerline adapters again. Apparently I misplaced a decimal or something, as the speeds they are limited to are far beyond the speed I'm paying my provider for. Thanks a lot!
