I need help. I like the computer I have now, but it is terribly slow. My brother got an upgrade and gave me his old computer (still better than mine) but this computer had Vista. I unplug his hard drive and plug in mine (hoping everything would be the same just with better hardware) and it black screens. I tried several times and I put it back in my old computer and it still works. WHAT DO I DO? Please help!

you can't use the old windows install on the new computer. you should be able to use the windows key form the old computer and install this version of windows on the new computer.

if you have the sticker from the old pc you can try to install that version of windows on the new one. keep in mind though that you can only use windows on one pc at a time so you won't be able to use the old pc anymore with the same key. 1 key = 1 pc

That may work. It may not work.
That is why you have all of your personal, critical stuff elsewhere and offline.

But your link speaks to a ND reinstall on the same hardware. Going to all new hardware, a clean install is highly recommended. And faster.
