alright, so I finally finished my first build of a computer. it run almost perfectly there are just a few things that are really starting to worry/annoy me.

1. I get huge! nothing loading, can't click , can't do anything lag/freeze ups that only ever last up to about 1 minute. they seem to happen a lot when opening or closing google chrome, or pretty much when I'm on the internet. but when on steam or something they never happen.

2. this one the concerning one, occasionally my computer will crash and give me the screen with the windows 8.1 frownie face thing. The only problem being that when I get the frownie face thing the screen goes all wonky and I get vertical lines going down my screen that obscure most everything thats being said by the Bsod.

Edit: if you need any additional information ask and I'll happily do my best to provide it

check if you have broken hardware like a defective ram. Also, if you can, try to use it with out your video card. Just try to go surf the web without the videocard. See if that lag/holding time it still there.

Do the same with your harddrive, might be your SSD that is defective.

Also, for the SSD make sure that your sata connection is set to AHCI in the bios. You might be connected in IDE.

Hope that helps.

My windows 8 was a clean i stall bouggt straight from the manufacturer, so that shouldn't be a problem. Also, I have installed all winsows updates, it wad one of the first things I did.

1) how do you suggest I check for broken hardware, when I looked at the troubleshooting program in windows it told me everything was working fine. How do I check for bad ram? I never get the bad memory beeps on start up, so thats a good sihn right?

2) Do you mean uninstall my videocard drivers? Because my MoBo doesn't have onboard graphics so wouldn't taking out my graphics card not let anything be displayed? Also, just for my curiosity, but how could the graphics card be the cause of the lagging? Wouldn't it more likely be my CPU or RAM? Also the freeze ups are pretty damn random, they don't always happen when I'm surfing the internet, sometimes I never get them in a session that can last a couple hours and sometimes they happen every other webpage.

3) how would I check my SSD? I have no consistant way to reproduce the BSoD, especially when I can play/work for hours without the BSoD happening. It seems rather random. This might have important to mention in the beggining, but occasionally, like 30% of the time when I get a BSoD windows decids that it needs to update on restart.

4) I really haven't messed around in bios other than looking at them, is it possible that my MoBo is auto set to IDE?

For the ram, simply check if the amount of ram windows detects is in sync with the ram you installed. So if you added 8gigs of ram it should say 8 gigs of ram in windows.

As for the video, you are right. Your chip doesn't have the integrated graphics. I am sorry, I didn't check that before. If you can use another graphic card to test. I am just trying to find a way for you to narrow the possibilities of the problem.

You MoBo supports AHCI so just go in the bios and see if it's set to AHCI for your sata connection.

If all the hardware is good to go it's maybe windows.

have you tried a clean install? Also, try to shutdown the automatic updates of windows.

If that doesn't do the trick, you might have a virus or some sort of malware.

One last thing, try to bring up your task manager and see what application or what resources are being used during those freeze time. You might have an indication there.

That's all I can think of.

Ram is good, evwrything checks out except that my mobo was in IDE mode, before I go ahead and switch it over into AHCI mode, can you explain a little bit about why I should do that just so I understand the process and if theres anything special I have to do to make my computer run in AHCI mode?

As for the AHCI, it's just to change the sata port connection to a more modern setting. Its better to run your ssd and you will have a performance increase. I suggest you do your own research on that. there are tons of websites and forum posts about that. Simply do a google search and you will find everything you need to know.
