I want to upgrade from gtx 260 to gtx 960. My specs are Q6600 2.4 TT Big Typhoon 8 gb ddr 2 800 CM 650W. I want to know will I see a performance jump going from gtx 260 to gtx 960 and how big. I know i will see a bottleneck especially in cpu bound games but I saw on occ forum that someone had a big upgrade going from gtx 560 to gtx 970 with Q6600 http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18627888&page=3

"see my benchmark data below of my Q6600 3.3ghz with 560 and with new 970:

Shadow of mordor, high settings 1920 res on 5601gb, 11fps. cpu usage 30%
shadow of mordor, high settigns 1920 res on 9704gb, 87fps. cpu usage 80%"

Im playing on 1680x1050 resolution. I know there will be a lot o you commenting change all components but I just want answer on this specific question, pls someone??

Ok I will then probably buy Asus gtx 960 because of cooling capabilities but its has wider gpu heatsing so will I have problem fitting it in Cooler master 690 first generetion ??

Admirable
Go for R9 280x if you can you want that 3GB VRAM in future insted only 2GB on GTX 960,and 280x is better and stronger and also you will have Mantle in some newer games which will help you with your current CPU to reduce bottleneck.

I have almost the exact same rig as what you have. I just purchased a GTX 960 off Amazon with overnight shipping. So I'll get it today at some point. I'll bookmark the page and let u know what I get performance wise.

I should state that I had a 260 at one point and upgraded to a 1gb 560ti. Massive upgrade. So my results will be from a 560ti to a 960. We both have an aging system but the way I look at it is this. It's my final upgrade until Intel releases skylake and when I get that I'll give this gpu to my brother. It's a win win. I just know that the 560ti at 1080p did a damn good job but not 60fps that I wanted. I mostly play lol and Gary's mod. And I can't get 60fps in those games. I'll let u know what I get soon!

You'll also get more than 100% performance. From a 260 to a 560ti that's a 100% performance boost while using half the power.
A 560ti to a 960 is at least 75% performance boost while using 40w less. So you're almost getting 200% for 120-140w your pc, power supply and electric bill will thank you.

hi there, i have C2Q Q6600 3,24 Ghz OC, Kingston 800 Mhz 4x 2GB (8 GB Total) DDR2, and Geforce GTX 650 TI 2GB DDR5 Graphic card. i want to buy 960 too, but i dont know how much my procesor will reduce the graphic card power. Can anyone tell me if the card been very limited by processor?

EDIT: or i can buy Sapphire R9 280X VaporX 3GB GDDR5 or ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD5

Im glad to hear that, I was a bit sceptical at first but thats good news. Is your Q6600 overclocked or stock, mine is at stock speed because i dont want more heat so does it really matter in games? Let me know about your upgrade to gtx 960 ?

After my time with the Asus 960 gtx I realized mine was a total dud. When it worked it actually gave me 20-30 fps more than my 560ti. I am running my q6600 at 2.4ghz.

i sent for a replacement as because anytime it would handle 3d it wouldn't let me do anything on my computer for 5 min then it would work for 30 seconds and happen all over again. When it worked it was fantastic. It will make your pc feel brand new again man. Buy it!

So far it's been a decent upgrade, the q6600 at stock 2.4 will be a bottleneck for sure and I still have issues in some games staying at a smooth 60fps. What this did do for my was give me and extra GB of vram which my system desperately needed for 1080p gaming. So now I have a more constant smooth fps as supposed to all over the place.

Idk what you are upgrading from but if it's anyrhing worse or before a 560ti you're gonna love it. It will make your pc feel brand new. This should be the final thing u do with an old system. No further upgrades can be done. Even OC will bring some new life but it's still not a huge increase of frame rate. I was OC AT 3.2 with 1066 FSB and as great as it was my pc ran way to hot and wasn't stable even with G0 stepping. Just upgrade and game again.
