Why do game keep crashing on me?

This is my first time building a computer. I just got everything up and running about a week ago and for the most part its been smooth sailing. The only noticeable problem so far is that programs (mostly games) crash unexpectedly without any error messages.

Are you overclocking or running stock?

Do the crashes take you back to the desktop or does your PC reset?

Intel Core i3 CPU
16 GB RAM Hyperx
Nvidia Geforce 550 GPU
750W Corsair PSU
Gigabyte H97M-D3H mobo

I do not over clock, and the crashes take me to desktop.

Yup everything is updated (os and graphics card)
