Hey.

I was stupid enough not wearing a ESD wrist strap while working inside my computer and noticed when trying to start it started fine but there was no connection to my monitor (i.e. blackscreen).
I opened up the side panel and saw that a red LED light (named DRAM_ LED on my mb) was lightning continuously.
That light indicates that something is wrong with either the slots or the ddr modules and after some testing it now appears that the two dimm slots to the left (A1 & A2) doesnt work. The modules works fine.

Now to my question!

Since the dimm slots to the left doesnt seem to work, can i just install my 2*8Gb ddr3 to the not matching color dimm slots next to each other (One is blue, the other black)?
And why are they having different colors?

My system is pretty old so if this works, with no degrade in performance, i am happy with it as it is and will take a lesson from my mistake in the future.

Sorry for my bad english, im not an english speaking person. (From Sweden).

Two same colour indicates that the dual channel memory mode that doubles the original memory bandwidth of memory. If you put the memories which are of same type same frequency and same chips used, the motherboard will enable the dual channel memory mode. If you put that memories in different colour slot, you will not get the benefit of dual channel memory mode. ....

Unplug your rig from the wall and let it sit for 15min, then try it again, what MB do you have? You have 4 DRAM slots, the 2 closed to the CPU are used by one channel of the memory controller and the other 2 by the other channel in the MC, each channel can control 2 sticks.

If it still says your memory is bad then try just 1 stick, first in the 2nd slot, then in the last slot (4th from the CPU). If no joy then try the other stick.

Thanks for the answers.

Is there anything i can do to fix dimm A1 & A2 (closest to cpu) so i can make benefit of the dual channel bandwidth?
Is this a common problem while working with especially memory modules?

Anyways, i have tested and my computer and it seems to work fine with the modules in the [strike]not[/strike] matching slots (B1 & B2)
