hello everyone.

I disassembled my old laptop to clean the fan out because of overheating and shutting down issues. When I removed the heat sink to the fan, I noticed that there was a ton of excess thermal paste oozed all around the cpu ( from factory- I didn't do it! heh heh)
well, in the process of trying to clean it up, I whoopsied, and got thermal paste touching 5 of the tiny chips on the cpu board. all the rubbing alcohol and q-tips I've used aren't helping remove it. So I assume I ruined it..

My question is.. Would it be dangerous (to the motherboard or any other part) to hook everything back up to see if it works? Or would it be safer to order a new cpu and wait to put everything back together?

The cpu is cheap, but i just didn't know if i would damage something and make things worse by testing it.

Thanks for any input in advance.
