I Just bought a PNY GTX 970 XLR8 edition GPU. I've noticed some serious discrepancies with what I should be pulling framerate wise and what i'm pulling. Namely so far, Borderlands 2 with everything max at PhysX low I get dips into the 40s at 1080p. this didn't even happen with my GTX 760 (192-bit OEM) Also mirrors edge, at max settings 1366x768 Maxxed with PhysX on, I pull in the 10s and 20s. whereas my GTX 760 (now my cousins GPU) at these game settings doesn't dip below 55 average. So my question is What gives? The 970 is supposed to be the price/performance king right now, capable of many titles being run at good settings on 4k. Is there an issue with my card specifically? or has anyone heard of issues related to this card series in general? thanks in advance guys.

You guys may be joking around but you'd be surprised how many people I run into saying things like how superior Nvidia drivers, cooling, and everything else is better than AMD. In...

Nothing wrong with your rig. I have some serious issues on borderlands 2 as well with my 970. Hopefully Nvidia get's their rear in gear and fixes the issues. So far, I've been very disappointed with my 970. I wish I had just stuck with AMD at this point as the card doesn't live up to it's hyper nor are the Nvidia drivers as good as everyone says. In fact, Nvidia drivers are much worse than AMDs.

Well the driver package is the same from one card to the other so I don't think that's it I just think it's the games support for the new card. And idk about all that AMD stuff I like my components nice and cool XD

I'm not going to start an AMD vs Nvidia fight or anything here but that's just another myth. My last AMD card (7970) ran at 28c. My 970 ran at 34c. For all the hype about it being a cool card, it wasn't impressive.

Are there AMD cards that run hot? Yes. The same could be said for Nvidia though. I remember the whole Fermi line of cards ran very hot so I have a hard time believing anyone when they say Nvidia cards run cooler.

In all reality it comes down mostly to who is making the cooler a ASUS 7970 might stay cooler then say a XFX 770 even at same speeds.

Yeah at the end of the day it's up to the aftermarket cooling style/quality. I was just messing around man haha.

I will end by saying that while I encounter many Nvidia fanboys, I rarely see a person foaming at the mouth to defend AMD.

Oh of course. I'll be honest in saying I am an Nvidia Fanboy. But I've built Rigs with AMD no problem. I will say that one thing that seems to be a real difference between the two companies right now is Nvidias newest architecture being more power effecient. But r9 300 series seems to be just around the corner so who knows what that'll give us.

I still think maxwell is going to be more power efficient but the 300 series is going to be more powerful by a wide margin.
